            Vanity is a no-no.

            Making pretty pictures comes from an actor's vanity, vanity can destroy your performance.

            You can't play the results: that's telling the audience how to react.

            Get the audience to react by planning how to accomplish it, but don't let them in on the secret.

1. First thing: "I don't care what it looks like." Vanity is the first thing to go.
2. Vanity not beauty.
3. Human nature we find that people don't give up. Vanity is the last thing to go.
4. This scene is monotony. What we have to work with, the personality of the people. We have to make the scene exciting: The theatricality. Every possibility of change. HOW TO SERVE IT UP. Vanity, vanity, all is vanity. Decorate the character, alarming.
